Stop VAT for Voluntary Organisations
Marian Harkin, MEP has pushed the European Commission for more details on the VAT review scheduled by the Commission for 2010 particularly with regard to voluntary organisations. The European Commission is considering whether to cut VAT for certain categories of transactions carried out in the public interest.
"I am calling on the Commission to introduce VAT exemptions for voluntary organisations registered in the Member States and in specific cases to exempt such organisations from payment of VAT on goods and services that are donated to voluntary organisations"
The European Commission has launched a study to examine the impact of present VAT rules. As soon as this study is finished they will launch a public consultation where stakeholders such as voluntary organisations can contribute.
"I welcome that the specific situation of non-profit making organisations is included in the scope of this study. I hope that this will mean changes to the legislation to ease the financial burden on voluntary organisations whose contribution to the economy is often undervalued but immensely important. ".
See Section 17 in Marian's Report on Volunteering for more information.
