On Friday 22nd January Sligo Volunteer Centre presented Certificates to participants who had successfully completed Volunteer Management Training.  Volunteer Management Training is an initiative being rolled out around Ireland to support local community organisations that have, or hope to have, volunteers involved with their groups in their community.  The training helps managers, coordinators and volunteers to have in place structures that enable volunteers and organisations get the best out of the time they spend together.

The Volunteer Centre were delighted to welcome Marian Harkin MEP who presented the certificates.  Marian Harkin MEP said "These certificates clearly demonstrate your commitment to ensuring that volunteer organisations provides the best possible opportunities and supports for its volunteers. Volunteer Management is a relatively new concept and in the past many organisations relied on more informal structures, systems and relationships, however in more recent times many organisations are putting in place more formal structures which help both the organisation and the volunteers to work better together.

"At one level there may be a sense of 'who needs volunteer managers - people
volunteer of their own free will and that's what really matters, there is no need to complicate the situation', however volunteers need support and structure to ensure that they work well within the voluntary organisation and in return they receive satisfaction and a sense of well being from their volunteering. In many ways, life and therefore volunteering has to respond to changing circumstances and Volunteer Managers help to smooth that transition.  It is particularly encouraging that Volunteer Management training is available at a local level another example of Sligo Volunteer Centre supporting volunteers and voluntary organisations in the Region,  Marian Harkin concluded.

Sligo Volunteer Centre are delighted to be offering another round of Volunteer Management Training in March to more community organisations.  This first group of participants in the Volunteer Management Training will lead the way in ensuring that volunteers and organisations continue to enhance the lives of all people in the communities they are a part of.
