Loughrea’s Family Carers Group were part of the wonderful voluntary band of carers throughout the country without whom the quality of the lives of those needing ongoing care would be considerably less.
This was suggested by Marian at an event in Family Carers Ireland, Loughrea on Friday, January 26th.
Marian who is Co-chair and founder of the European Parliament’s Family Carers Interest Group presented a personal donation of €2,500 to Loughrea Carers Group as part of her programme of support for carers groups throughout her European Parliament constituency.
She criticised the lack of support from successive governments for the thousands of women and men who provide ongoing, unstinted care for loved ones. “In addition to the great care provided by those caring heroes they save the state approximately 4 billion each year which reflects the monetary value of their efforts. This contribution deserves a far better response from government by way of greater financial support and a meaningful respite programme”, she concluded.
