Marian, who grants her TD and teacher pensions to family carer groups throughout her constituency, recently presented cheques of €2,500 each to the Longford and Westmeath carers groups.
She said that she used to return her pension payments to the state but since her re-election had, instead, decided to fund carer groups throughout her constituency. “My aim is to provide funding to groups in all 15 counties of my constituency and to help in this way to support the great work which volunteer carers do and in the process save the state over €4 billion each year”.
Caroline Poole, Regional Manager, Family Carers Ireland said that it was the generosity of donors like Marian which enabled the provision of respite care and outings for family carers. “When you need help is when you need resources and donations such as this are vital to our work in supporting our volunteers”, she said.
