“At Dublin Airport on May 19th, I was really touched to hear the words of appreciation by the President of the European Disability Forum (EDF) and Pat Clarke, Chairman of the Disability Federation of Ireland for my work in the European Parliament on disability issues for many years.

“The occasion was the celebration of the 10th anniversary of the introduction of EU legislation on rights at airports for people with disabilities.  I was speaking at the celebration as Vice President of the Disability Interest Group in the European Parliament and was greatly impressed with the plans announced by the Dublin Airport Authority for new facilities to be provided in the airport for people with disabilities.

“Having suffered a temporary disability which required me to avail of facilities at the airport for my weekly travel to the Parliament I have a real appreciation of the value, and need, for quality assistance for those with a disability who often have to face difficult transiting to distant gates.

“ I was very pleased to attend this function which was held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the European Disability Forum held in Dublin on Saturday, May 21st.  The EDF and the Disability Federation of Ireland do valuable work for people with a disability and I maintain close contact with them in constantly advocating on disability issues at EU level”.
