Independent MEP Marian Harkin today (12 June) hailed the launch of an EU-wide website for Europe’s Carers, and encouraged Carers in Ireland to "take a look and see what tools and services may be of use to them in their busy lives".

Speaking during National Carers Week (June 10-16), Harkin - who Chairs the European Parliament Carers Interest Group - said that "the new website functions as an online tool kit for Carers, allowing them to access a number of resources from the comfort of their own homes".

"For example," she added," the website aims to provide a single source of quality assured information on hundreds of health conditions and treatments, as well as financial and legal issues for Carers such as their Social welfare entitlements, bereavement counselling and the use of various technologies that may help them provide care".

"Having this wealth of detailed content in one central location should prove useful for Irish Carers, who in this time of relentless Government cutbacks need every support available," Harkin concluded.
