Representatives of a number of family carer groups from counties Cavan, Kildare, Laois, Louth, Longford, Meath, Monaghan and Westmeath participated in a conference in the European Parliament in Brussels on Wednesday June 15th, which dealt with a new EU initiative on work-life balance.

The Conference, under the auspices of the European Parliaments Carers Interest Group, was Chaired by Independent MEP Marian Harkin who hosted the visit of carers from eight counties in her Midlands-North-West European Parliament constituency.

The representative of the European Commission who attended and spoke at the Conference, and who will be involved in preparing the new EU work-life balance policy, heard from Irish carers of the many difficulties faced by family carers and those they care for.
