The possibility of retraining BOSE workers for jobs emerging from the expansion of Combilift will be among the subjects to be discussed when Independent MEP Marian Harkin and Cllr. Paudge Connolly meet with SIPTU and BOSE workers in Carrickmacross today, Friday February 13th.
Marian Harkin wrote the report on which the present €1 billion EU Globalisation Fund is based and has succeeded in the past in achieving flexibility in its application. “Ireland has to date successfully applied to the Globalisation Fund to help workers made redundant in a number of companies throughout the country. I will be explaining to the representatives of the BOSE workers how this fund works and how it might apply to them and to workers in other companies whose jobs could be lost as a consequence of the BOSE closure” she said. She would also be discussing the special EU Youth Initiative, which exists to help create youth employment on a regional basis.
The meeting will take place at 4.30pm in the Shirley Arms Hotel, Carrickmacross.
