The very evident presence of entries from schools throughout Co. Donegal in the Young Scientist 2006 Exhibition at the RDS, Dublin was heartening evidence of the importance placed by the county’s educators on the role of science and technology in preparing for future careers.
This was stated by Independent MEP Marian Harkin when she commented on the range and quality of the entries from Donegal schools a number of which won awards.
“As a former science teacher I was hugely impressed with the extent and quality of the entries and the obvious enthusiasm of both teachers and students for their projects”, she said.
For the future of Co. Donegal it was vital that those students who pursued education in science and technology could develop future careers in their own county and this required a major effort by IDA Ireland and Enterprise Ireland with full backing from the Government, Marian Harkin said.
She congratulated all of the teachers, schools and students who participated in the Young Scientist 2006 Exhibition and urged them to continue their participation in the years ahead.
